This resort allows you to enjoy the beauty of the Redwoods while staying above the coastal fog. It is perfect for day trips to explore the area or to kayak or raft down the Smith River. There are commercial rafting trips available or shuttle service if you want to go on your own.
The landscaping here is beautiful and the layout of the park is unique. The sites are all parallel to the roads with your front door facing a wide greenbelt, giving every space a "front yard". In the evening, walking throughout the park and enjoying the roses and wisteria completes your day.
The staff is terrific! Restrooms were clean and well stocked.
There is a counvenience store and cafe adjacent to the park.
Though it is a bit of a drive to Crescent City for major shopping, it is worth it to enjoy the sun and warmer temperatures than at parks right on the coast.

The location is great along with the weather, the park layout is good. Although I found I had to complain about the cleanliness of the restrooms and make sure you get your coins for the showers in the beginning because there is not always someone in the office.

We enjoyed our stay at Hiouchi. It is well located for a visit to the Redwoods. We looked at other campgrounds in Crescent City and they all seemed old and rundown. Hiouchi is neat and clean. Also, staying on the coast would subject you to the chill and cloudiness which you avoid by staying at Hiouchi. Hiouchi is also only a few miles from Jedediah Smith State Park. Staff is also friendly but the office was only open from 9 - 5. I did have a problem connecting to the internet at my campsite on their Wi-Fi which staff was unable to help me with. I was able to access the internet by going to the rec room/office. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Hiouchi and stay here again.
